Architecture & Core Commitment

JEWEALITY ("we", "our", or "us") developed SamRemote as an offline-first utility application to control Samsung Smart TVs over your local home Wi-Fi network.

Unlike cloud-dependent remote applications, SamRemote communicates directly from your mobile device to your Samsung TV across your local area network (LAN). We do not operate user accounts, remote telemetry servers, or cloud storage for your device interactions.

No Account Required Zero Cloud Storage of TV Tokens Direct Local LAN Socket Offline-First Design

Your Privacy Guarantee: The keystrokes, volume changes, touchpad movements, and TV credentials you generate in SamRemote remain strictly inside your local private network. They are never sent to JEWEALITY or any remote third-party server.

2

Information We Collect & Store Locally

To provide TV remote functionality, SamRemote stores certain technical parameters locally on your device using encrypted Android local storage (Room Database / DataStore):

Data stored locally on your device
Data Element Purpose Where It Stays
TV IP Address & Port To open local WebSocket / REST sockets to your TV (ports 8001, 8002, or 55000). On-device database only.
TV Device Unique ID (DUID) & MAC To uniquely recognize and identify saved TVs and enable Wake-on-LAN (WoL). On-device database only.
Pairing Token Generated by your Samsung TV during the on-screen "Allow this device" prompt to authenticate future remote commands without re-pairing. On-device database only.
User Preferences Haptic feedback vibration preference, selected remote tab, and default TV. On-device DataStore only.

Information We Do NOT Collect

We believe in radical data minimization. SamRemote does not gather or track:

No Personal Identity

We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, contacts, or passwords.

No Remote Log Tracking

We do not log what channels you watch, what apps you open on your TV, or which remote buttons you press.

No Precise GPS Location

We never access or request GPS or fine location hardware permissions.

No Microphone or Camera

SamRemote has no audio or camera permissions and does not record your room or audio.

4

Local Network & TV Pairing Protocol

How your phone connects to your TV:

  1. Local Discovery: The app sends SSDP (UPnP) multicast discovery packets across your local subnet to detect Samsung Smart TVs (Tizen OS 2016+ or legacy Orsay 2014–2015).
  2. User-Authorized Pairing: When connecting for the first time, your TV will display an on-screen dialog asking: "Allow device to connect?". You must physically accept this prompt on your TV screen using your existing remote or TV buttons.
  3. Token Retention: The TV returns an encrypted authorization token. SamRemote keeps this token solely on your phone so that future connections connect seamlessly without repeating the prompt.

You can delete any saved TV, along with its token and connection records, at any time by opening the Saved TVs screen in SamRemote and tapping Delete, or by clearing app data in your phone's Settings.

5

Google AdMob & Advertising Practices

SamRemote is a free application supported by advertisements delivered through Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC).

How Ads Work in SamRemote

  • Ad Formats: We serve an anchored adaptive banner ad in the remote view and occasional interstitial ads at natural transition points.
  • Premium Users: Users who upgrade via the one-time "Go Premium" in-app purchase have all advertisements disabled permanently.

Data Processed by Google AdMob

To serve advertisements, combat fraud, and measure ad performance, the Google Mobile Ads SDK automatically processes:

  • Android Advertising ID (AAID / AD_ID): Used for frequency capping, ad measurement, and personalization (if consented).
  • IP Address: Used to estimate coarse geographical location (city/country level) to deliver relevant localized ads.
  • Device Information: Device model, OS version, screen size, language, and mobile network operator.
  • Diagnostic & Performance Data: Crash reports, SDK load latency, and ad interaction logs.

GDPR / EEA / UK Consent (Google UMP SDK): For users in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland, SamRemote presents a Google-certified Consent Management Platform (CMP) message on first launch. You have full freedom to accept, decline, or configure personalized versus non-personalized ads, and you can change your preferences at any time in the app settings.

For more details on how Google processes ad data, review the Google Advertising & Privacy Policy.

6

Android System Permissions

SamRemote requests only the minimal set of permissions required to function:

System permissions used by SamRemote
Permission Status Technical Reason
INTERNET Normal (Granted) To send WebSocket/REST commands to your TV's local IP address and load Google AdMob advertisements.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE Normal (Granted) To verify if your phone is currently connected to Wi-Fi before initiating TV scans.
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE Normal (Granted) To determine Wi-Fi status and fetch local subnet addresses for SSDP device discovery.
CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE Normal (Granted) To send and receive SSDP/mDNS UDP multicast discovery packets across your local network.
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE Legacy (maxSdkVersion 28) Only used on ancient Android 6–9 devices if the user explicitly triggers debug log export to the public Downloads folder. Android 10+ uses scoped storage without this permission.
7

In-App Purchases & Billing

SamRemote offers an optional one-time digital purchase ("Go Premium") to permanently remove all advertisements.

All in-app financial transactions are executed exclusively through the Google Play Billing Library. JEWEALITY does not collect, receive, or store your credit card numbers, billing addresses, or bank account details. Google manages all payment processing in accordance with Google Play’s Privacy Policy.

8

Third-Party SDKs & Service Providers

We integrate third-party developer libraries to assist with ads, billing, and system stability:

  • Google Play Services Ads (AdMob): Ad monetization and consent. (Google Privacy Policy)
  • Google Play Billing Library: In-app purchase processing. (Google Play Terms)
  • Android Jetpack & KotlinX: Modern, standard Android architecture libraries by Google.

We do not share your TV control tokens, device names, or usage records with any third-party SDK.

9

Children’s Privacy

SamRemote is a general audience utility application designed for household TV control. It is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EEA).

We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us immediately at service@jeweality.com so we can take appropriate steps to purge any such information.
